Weekend Recap – May 11-12, 2018
Our Jonathan Byrd’s Racing drivers continued the hot streak this past weekend! This time it was Chris Windom who found his way to Victory Lane. Windom and KT both competed with the USAC Amsoil Sprint Car Series at Eldora Speedway for the #LetsRaceTwo weekend.
On Friday night, KT started the weekend with a bang by setting quick time in qualifying in the Hoffman Mean Green No. 69. KT and Windom battled in the heat race finishing 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Both drivers had a solid Top-5 finish in Friday’s feature with Windom coming home 3rd and KT earning a 5th place finish.
Saturday night saw Chris Windom standing atop of his Baldwin Brothers No. 5 in the best place to be – Victory Lane! With strong qualifying efforts, Windom and KT found themselves starting towards the front of the field for Saturday night’s 30-lap main event. Windom dominated the race leading the last 26 laps, while KT had another solid night with a 6th place finish.
The fun continued for KT on Sunday when he made his debut in the Dooling/Hayward No. 63 winged sprint car with the World of Outlaws at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. KT raised some eyebrows and showed he was quite comfortable with the wing on top when he qualified 5th in his flight, finished 2nd in his heat race, and found himself in the dash! KT started 5th and drove to a 2nd place finish in the dash earning a front row starting spot for his first World of Outlaws main event of 2018. Unfortunately, the good fortune ends there as a mechanical failure led to an early exit from the race.
This weekend, Windom and KT will be back in action with the USAC Amsoil Sprint Car series at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL on Friday and Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, MO on Saturday! Both drivers will have merchandise available at the track this weekend. Be sure to be on the lookout for Windom’s new gear featuring the Belardi/Byrd with Baldwin Brothers No. 33 Indy Lights car!
